I just got to visit Hiltl,
yes HILTL that is how it is spelled
and I totally loved the experience!
The legendary and famous vegetarian restaurant Hiltl is located in the center of Zurich, Switzerland and was founded in 1898.
This year (2018) it celebrates 120 years and is still owned and run by the same family,
going on 4 generations now.
The restaurant holds the Guinness world record for being
the oldest continuously open vegetarian restaurant in the world!
In addition to the à la carte menu, the popular Hiltl buffet offers more than 100 homemade specialties, also available for take away.
I went for the buffet, and loved it.
Chose between all-you-can-eat or weigh your plate(s) and pay.
Hiltl also arranges events and cooking classes (both adults and kids).
Plus offers their own cook books.
The postcard reads: There everyone eats vegetarian with pleasure.
Next door is the Hiltl store called the Vegetarian Butcher!
At night the Hiltl restaurant transforms into a night club – Hiltl Club.
It is the first “fur-free” club in Switzerland.
You actually find Hiltl at many sites in Zurich, but Haus Hiltl is the main location. The one with the amazing buffet and with the restaurant spread out on two floors, with kitchen in the basement.
Well what about raw food?
There were plenty of sallads and fresh fruits on the buffet, but no special raw food dishes. Yet ;-)
