It is important to have a strong and vital connection to the earth which we live off and on. To be or to feel grounded. After all, we have the descriptive phrase “standing with both feet on the ground” which signifies a person who does not live “up in the clouds”. You can say about her that she is “down to earth” or “well-anchored” when you want to give a picture of someone who is stable, and who is not “carried away” or “on cloud nine” when it comes to the latest opinion or various trends, etc. In Skåne (Sweden) we have the expression “hon är sig själv nock” (nog), meaning she is content being herself, which can be interpreted as being well-anchored, she is genuine, and she is not smitten by what is fashionable or what the latest opinion is. She is neither flaky nor unclear.
The diet
Another strong and important connection we have to the earth is through our food. The earth supplies us with nourishment. And it does so with the help of sunlight and water. The food is then figuratively speaking, a direct link, a direct bond to the earth which we live on and off. The sun gives us solar energy and the earth gives us earth energy and these two energies we find in our food as well.
Grounding
Through research and various studies, we gain more and more knowledge about the direct connection to the earth, that is, to be grounded. You can be grounded in the sense or meaning of being centered. In yoga and meditation we talk about visualizing being grounded and the grounding we then think of is to be mentally and spiritually grounded. But it is something completely different to create a physical contact with the earth. To to be grounded in the sense meaning earthing is to be so close to the earth that it has the opportunity to influence us positively. It means sitting and lying on the ground or walking barefoot on it. To stay and live on and near the earth.
We should both know and understand how the grounding or the earthly radiation itself carries an important influence on us for us to achieve a better balance or micro balance in our bodies. It applies to all living things on earth.
We are bio-electrical human beings living on an electrical planet, a negatively charged planet. When we come into contact with the ground, the earth, there is an equalization between our positively charged body and the negatively charged ground. We then get the same electrical capacity as the earth. The best grounding is obtained on moist soil, such as on a damp beach or dewy lawn because moisture is conductive. Metal is also conductive, so taking a shower or washing by hand is also beneficial as both the pipes and the sink are conductive. However, swimming in the sea is by far the most powerful grounding activity you can partake in due to the high mineral content of the salt water.
We should also realize how important the soil itself is, that is, the particles from the earth, the precious “dust”. How beneficial it is when we absorb this, like when we touch plants, or plant or harvest them and then come in contact with the soil directly. Even the feeling we get when walking barefoot on the grass. How refreshing the cold dew can feel in the morning. Or how we enjoy walking by a lake and splash in the water or getting to feel the sand with our toes or sitting on a sunny cliff by the sea. All of this we already instinctively know that it makes us feel well. We feel pleasure when we expose ourselves to these things. The beneficial radiation from the earth is valuable to all living things.
Earthing
When you are aware of the body and that your consciousness lives in there, instead of up among the clouds, then you are also aware of your physical actions. One way to ground yourself is to eat vegetables that grow underground, such as carrots, sweet potatoes, onions, parsnips, radishes and beets etc. this is a great way. Here is how Anthony Williams writes about soil: “To dirty one’s hands to give way to new life is anchoring, it strengthens the spirit and revives the soul. In addition, Mother Earth’s soul is in the soil we cultivate.”
Another way to ground yourself could be to carry a crystal or stone that emits a subtle grounding force, such as hematite or obsidian crystal. And you can use essential oils that are grounding. Getting a foot massage is beneficial – you can even give one to yourself. Furthermore you can also imagine how roots grow from the feet down into the ground. See how they spread out and go deep into the earth and draw power. But the best thing I feel is to walk barefoot on moist grass, wet sand or wade in the sea. Or even better to swim in the sea. To feel nature with your bare feet or the whole body. When we are grounded it is easier to take in and focus on the physical reality that we live in.
Trees and Healing
Trees are wonderful. They both purify and heal, and they are truly grounded with their deep and powerful root systems. In fact, all plants with their roots deep down in the soil are conducive, that is, when we touch them, we also become grounded. So hugging a tree is actually a healthy and self-healing act you do for yourself. And most likely kind to the tree as well ;-).
It is wonderful to walk through the forest and absorb the subtle essential oils that the trees emit. You feel cleansed, grounded and maybe even healed in your mind after a peaceful forest walk. Spending time in nature gives us both energy and rest.
Our bodies are adapted to natural environments, i.e. nature environments. If you live far from lakes, seas, mountains and forests or other lands such as meadows and beaches, you can still get a connection to Mother Earth’s nature by strolling in a park. Or go into a flower shop and expose yourself to the wonderful scents and colors and see all the beauty in there.
You can ground yourself both physically and mentally by touching a plant or tree trunk, they are conducive. See for your inner sight how roots from your feet and legs grow into the ground. See how the roots spread and see what color and shape they have. Feel that you are anchored into the ground and that you are one with the earth. Both with the earth itself, that is, the ground, the stones and the soil. But also with the Earth, the planet on which we live, Mother Earth.
To Balance Your Spirituality
Doreen Virtue writes: “When you disconnect your awareness of the body and your physical existence, you lose your foundation. Although it is wonderful to float in the sky, your attention and effort is needed here on earth.”
She says that if we balance the spiritual and the material then we can enjoy a satisfying earthly life. Being grounded, down to earth and genuine improves our relationships. According to Doreen, earthing and grounding make us more concentrated and focused and this improves our contact with the angels.
