When living in southern Florida I so much appreciate being able to buy locally grown tropical fruits.
My friends have avocado, banana, litchi, mango, papaya, and star fruit trees growing in their gardens. And it is quite easy to obtain coconut water from locally grown green coconuts.
But my absolute favorite tropical fruit is the durian. And the place to get it from is Josh’s Organic Juice Bar in Hollywood. Fresh durian meat is so creamy, like vanilla custard and I do not mind the somewhat sulfuric smell – some people would say odor!
If you have a chance, do try it out. In the recipe below you will find a real sweet and creamy treat made with durian as the main ingredient. When eating this “raw food dream”, it is easy to start loving durian!
Eat slowly and relish!
DURIAN DREAM TREAT
Makes 2 cups
1 pear, ripe, seeded and in chunks
3 large soft dates (Medjool), pitted
2 tablespoons coconut flakes or flesh from young coconut
1 cup durian meat, seeds removed
½ cup pure water/coconut water or more to facilitate blending
Place all ingredients in blender and process until smooth and creamy.
