This drink is inspired by a smoothie offered by Maya Papaya, one of my favorite food places in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The small Maya Papaya café serves fresh, creative and great tasting foods. Located just across from the Galleria Mall it is a perfect place to stop in for a refreshing juice, a cold smoothie or grab something nourishing to eat. They offer breakfasts as well, but are closed for dinners.
I used the same ingredients they list for their Banana Kush, except for agave. I substituted with honey, actually Manuka (fancy honey from New Zealand with lots of health benefits).
Also, used another protein powder (pea, rice and hemp) since I was out of pure hemp protein powder. But the taste is still quite similar! Yum!
And furthermore, the almond mylk/milk should be home made, can’t beat that.
Ingredients
1,5 bananas or 2 small ones
½ cup, or more, almond mylk
1,5 tablespoons almond butter
1,5 tablespoons hemp seed
1 tablespoon hemp protein or other protein powder
½-1 tablespoon honey, Manuka is great
A handful ice cubes
Directions
Blend all ingredients except for ice on high for a creamy smoothie. Add ice cubes, blend until dissolved and serve right away.
Tip
Maya Papaya offers: “For an extra buck you can cacao dip your kush”.
So if you feel like having a cacao treat, and who wouldn’t, then add 1-2 tablespoons cacao powder with the other ingredients when blending
and sprinkle lots of cacao nibs on top.
What is Banana Kush?
Banana Kush is a strain of weed, a hybrid which is supposed to smell and taste like a bushel of fresh bananas. Hence the name.
The only “kush” here in this smoothie though, are the innocent hemp seeds. Protein filled and nutty tasting, that’s it!
But why not get “high” on fresh food?!
